There's something special about stepping aboard a brand new cruise ship - that pristine combination of new ship smell, cutting-edge design, and the excitement of exploring a floating destination that few have experienced before. That's exactly the feeling my buddy, Sujeet, from GuysGab.com, and I had when we recently embarked on MSC World America for an unforgettable Caribbean guys trip.
A New Challenger in the Mega-Ship Arena
Standing proudly as the 8th largest cruise ship in the world, MSC World America represents MSC Cruises' bold challenge to competitors in the mega-ship space. At 215,863 gross tons with a length of 1,092 feet and capacity for 6,762 passengers, she's an impressive ship that seamlessly combines immense size with European sophistication while also integrating design and service elements that make this ship much more approachable for cruisers more familiar with other cruise lines that cater more exclusively to Americans.
As the second ship in MSC Cruises' innovative World Class series (following MSC World Europa), World America continues MSC Cruises' tradition of having some of the most beautiful cruise ships anywhere in the world. We were on MSC Seashore a few years ago and that was a big ship but MSC World America is even bigger and features 22 decks of carefully curated experiences where pretty much everyone from families on spring break to guys celebrating their retirement or divorce parties can all find something to enjoy here.
One note of speculation is that MSC Cruises named their decks after American ports - our Deluxe Balcony cabin was located on the Seattle deck, and there's also a Los Angeles deck, among others. This thoughtful touch makes me hope that MSC might bring one of these impressive mega ships to the West Coast sometime soon for Mexican Riviera cruises. Considering I'm looking forward to featuring more about MSC Cruises' entrance into the Alaska cruise market this summer, it wouldn't be out of the question to see a ship like this on the West Coast at some point in the near future!
The Perfect Cruise Ship For A Guys Getaway
MSC World America offers the ideal mix of high-energy activities, relaxation spaces, and social venues for men looking to escape the daily grind with their buddies. Our first stop? The All-Stars Sports Bar is significantly different from what you might have experienced on MSC SeaShore / MSC SeaScape etc. but it is equally enjoyable. With multiple screens, bar games, and a great selection of brews, it quickly became our go-to meeting spot between adventures.
For adrenaline seekers, the ship delivers thrills in spades. We couldn't resist testing our courage on the Cliffhanger, an over-water swing that dangles you above the ocean for heart-stopping views. The Jaw Drop, an 11-deck spiral dry slide, also provided that perfect rush that grown men still secretly (or not so secretly) crave. Between the ropes course, bumper cars at Sportplex, and various water features, there was no shortage of activities to keep us entertained.
European Culinary Excellence at Sea
A guys trip isn't complete without exceptional food and drinks, and MSC World America exceeds all expectations in this department. With 19 dining venues, including the only Eataly restaurant at sea, the culinary offerings blend international cuisines with authentic preparations.
There were many questions that I got about Eataly before Sujeet and I joined the cruise so I think it is very important that people don’t get the wrong impression - this is a restaurant with a standard plated menu. There is no “Food Hall” experience here and the cuisine is more upscale than the casual experience that you might find in similarly branded locations in Los Angeles, New York, and Las Vegas. It was good though, so we were happy.
While we didn’t get a chance to eat there - the standout option was Paxos and Paxos to go. This Greek restaurant will transport guests straight to Santorini with its fresh seafood, Mediterranean flavors, and lively atmosphere.
Coffee lovers will appreciate that you’ll find actual espresso machines at most major bars and awesome espresso martinis and lattes too. Sooooo good! MSC Cruises's commitment to coffee excellence is evident in every cup, reinforcing their reputation for having some of the best coffee at sea.
Elements like this just make the experience of sailing with MSC Cruises that much more elevated.
Of course, no conversation about MSC Cruises's culinary prowess would be complete without mentioning their pizza - widely considered among the best you'll find on any cruise line. The same goes for Venchi chocolates and their espresso martinis and gelato that make for perfect mid-afternoon indulgences or late-night treats.
While it is impossible to review the food on a preview cruise like this fully, my experience was significantly elevated - even in the main dining room and buffet - compared to what I’ve experienced on other similar sailings across different cruise lines over the years.
Nightlife That Keeps the Party Going
As the sun sets, MSC World America becomes an entertainment hub with options for any mood. Guys choosing to sail on MSC World America can alternate between sophisticated cocktail lounges and high-energy performance venues, catching everything from "Dirty Dancing in Concert" to the "Queen Symphonic" tribute concert. Plus there's a comedy club and a bunch of other great performances too.
The "Cinesonic" experience, featuring iconic movie soundtracks and film scores will be particularly fun for guys that want to sing along and have fun with nostalgia. The performance blends visual and audio elements in a fresh way. With 18 bars and lounges spread throughout the ship, finding the right atmosphere for our group was effortless.
MSC Yacht Club: Perfect For Luxury Bachelor Parties
While our preview cruise didn't include a stay in the MSC Yacht Club, we toured this exclusive ship-within-a-ship and immediately recognized its potential for bachelor party cruises or milestone celebrations. However, we have cruised in MSC Yacht Club and it is truly one of the best aspects of the line's offerings. Imagine having access to all the excitement of a mega-ship combined with the privacy and personalized service of a luxury boutique hotel. That's what you have here - plus your very own butler to escort you to dinner or even carry your coffee and pastries back to the room for breakfast on your balcony.
The MSC Yacht Club on MSC World America is the largest in the Caribbean, offering keycard-only access, a private restaurant, pool, sundeck, and lounge, plus 24-hour butler service. For groups of guys celebrating a friend's upcoming nuptials, this setup allows for both private moments to reflect and easy access to the ship's high-energy areas when it's time to ramp up the festivities.
It's the little details, such as having your butler arrange everything from private scotch tastings at sunset to reservations at specialty restaurants, that ensure the celebration runs smoothly without anyone in your group needing to manage logistics.
Flexibility for Every Budget
One of MSC Cruises' greatest strengths is its pricing flexibility. While the Yacht Club represents the premium end of the spectrum, MSC World America also offers some of the most affordable budget-friendly cruise options in the Caribbean, making it very accessible for guys getaways regardless of budget constraints.
This flexibility extends to intergenerational trips as well. For instance, maybe dad and grandad prefer the exclusivity of Yacht Club, while the younger generation opts for more economical accommodations in an inside cabin. Everyone will still get to enjoy the ship's highlights together - meeting for meals at Eataly, adventures at The Harbour, or evening shows - before retreating to their preferred level of luxury.
Environmental Leadership Worth Noting
Beyond the fun and indulgence, I continue to be genuinely impressed by MSC Cruises' commitment to environmental stewardship. The Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve - MSC Cruises' private island destination in the Bahamas - isn't just a beach paradise but a genuine conservation project where the company continues their long-term project of transforming a former industrial site into a thriving marine reserve. You can experience this in person through diving excursions, just simply walking around the island, as well as the Marine Conservation Center which will allow visitors to view interactive pavilions as well as other opportunities to learn about the ocean environments that we so love.
MSC World America herself represents the cutting edge of sustainable cruising technology. As one of the most energy-efficient cruise ships in the world, she runs on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), which significantly reduces emissions compared to traditional marine fuels. The ship also features advanced wastewater treatment systems and comprehensive onboard recycling management.
For guys who want to enjoy themselves without ignoring environmental concerns, MSC offers a rare combination of luxury and responsibility. This is especially important for me since “luxury” is more than just fancy drinks and comfortable cabins - it’s about being able to enjoy leisure while also protecting and restoring those things that are important to me and my friends.
What We Missed (But Will Catch Next Time)
Our preview sailing was packed with highlights but inevitably left us wanting more. The ship's enormous size means even a week-long cruise would barely scratch the surface of available experiences. High on my list for next time are the thermal experiences at Aurea Spa, more time exploring the Zen Area's tranquil pools, and diving deeper into specialty dining options.
Likewise, Paxos is top on our list as well.
MSC World America will be operating 7-night Eastern Caribbean itineraries (Puerto Plata, San Juan, and Ocean Cay) and Western Caribbean voyages (Costa Maya, Cozumel, Isla de Roatan, and Ocean Cay) from Miami for the 2025 cruise season. These itineraries offer the perfect blend of onboard excitement and fascinating ports that would complement any guy's trip. As always, I recommend contacting your travel advisor for the most up-to-date details and pricing.
