St. Kitts logged 61,374 air arrivals through April 2025, a 14% increase over the prior year, while cruise passenger arrivals reached 690,244, [according to the St. Kitts Tourism Authority](https://www.sknis.gov.kn/2025/06/03/st-kitts-tourism-authoritys-2025-stakeholder-meeting-highlights-strong-q1-performance-market-growth-and-a-collaborative-vision-for-the-future/). Almost everyone who says they've been to St. Kitts means they were docked in Basseterre for an afternoon. ## St. Kitts And Nevis Are Two Different Trips St. Kitts is the island that most guys visit first - it's a busy tourist destination and a popular cruise port. Basseterre takes the cruise ships and can sometimes be packed with more than 10,000 guests but Frigate Bay holds most of the hotels and the golf, and the southeast peninsula ends at Christophe Harbour, a superyacht marina Safe Harbor Marinas bought in May 2025 - roughly 250 berths, about 50 of them sized for yachts up to 250 feet. Nevis is the other half, and it is not a smaller version of the same trip. Charlestown is small and colonial, Pinney's Beach is long and quiet, and Nevis Peak sits in the middle of the island. The Four Seasons is the anchor, and the golf is the reason most guys cross over. Crossing is easy and nobody plans for it. The volcano is most of a day, a charter is most of a day, and the golf is on two different islands. ### Royal St. Kitts And Four Seasons Nevis Golf Are Two Must-Visit Courses For Guys That Love Caribbean Golf Royal St. Kitts sits on the neck of Frigate Bay with the Atlantic on one side and the Caribbean on the other, an 18-hole par 71 that stretches to 6,900 yards from the back tees. High season is $165 and summer drops to $140. Tee off after noon and it's $95; after 2 p.m. it's $75. The heat breaks, the course empties, and you finish in time to be on a bar stool by sundown. Rental clubs run $65. The Four Seasons course on Nevis is the one golfers travel for, and it's the bigger day out. Robert Trent Jones II designed it, his first in the Caribbean, and the par 70 climbs off Pinney's Beach through old sugar plantation ruins toward Nevis Peak before running back down to the sea. ### When To Fish For Wahoo, Tuna, And Marlin Every charter brochure on the island lists the same species, which is how guys end up booking a marlin trip in February. The water runs on a calendar: wahoo and tuna through fall and winter, January among the strongest months, marlin and mahi in summer. Full-day offshore charters start around $995 for the boat, so a foursome splitting it lands near $250 a man. Pick the month around the fish you want to fight. ### Hike Into Mount Liamuiga's Crater Mount Liamuiga is the high point of the country at 3,792 feet, and the hike is a real one. The trail climbs through rainforest to the crater rim around 3,000 feet, rope-assisted where it goes near-vertical and muddy almost everywhere else. The payoff is a crater a thousand feet deep, green all the way down, with sulfur vents steaming at the bottom. Go early, go with a guide, and budget half a day, which is exactly why the cruise crowd never sees it. ### Brimstone Hill Fortress And The Railway Brimstone Hill Fortress is the island's serious historical site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site the British began building in 1690 and kept working on for the next century, constructed and maintained by enslaved Africans. Admission is $15. It deserves a slow visit rather than a photo stop. The St. Kitts Scenic Railway is the other half of that day. Marketing calls it the last railway in the West Indies, which is a stretch, since Cuba still runs a national rail network. What it actually is: a three-hour, 30-mile loop of the island, 18 miles on narrow-gauge track built to haul sugar cane and the rest by bus, rum punch poured the whole way, around $155. ### The Strip, Shipwreck, And Cockleshell Bay South Frigate Bay is where the island drinks. The Strip is a row of beach bars on the sand that runs as a beach day until the sun drops, then becomes the closest thing St. Kitts has to a nightlife district - the natural landing zone for a [bachelor party](https://www.mantripping.com/bachelor-party-ideas.html), or any group that wants the night to keep moving without a taxi. Two more are worth the drive. Shipwreck sits on the rocks above South Friars Bay, weathered decking and fishing nets, and it's the sunset spot. Cockleshell Bay is at the far southeast tip, where Reggae Beach Bar runs a Friday night Lobsterfest and the Spice Mill covers the upscale end of the sand. ## Where To Stay: Frigate Bay, Banana Bay, Or Nevis The St. Kitts Marriott Beach Resort, Casino & Spa in Frigate Bay is the one I'd book for a group. It sells all-inclusive rates, the Royal Beach Casino is on site if you want to hit the tables with the guys, Royal St. Kitts Golf Club is next door with a guest discount, and the Strip is a walk down the beach. Golf, casino, beach bars, and bed all sit inside a few hundred yards, which makes the case for paying the all-inclusive rate instead of a taxi fare six times a day. Park Hyatt St. Kitts Christophe Harbour is the splurge: 124 rooms on Banana Bay at the southeast peninsula, about 30 minutes from the airport, facing Nevis across the water, with the Stone Barn kept adults-only. The Four Seasons Resort Nevis is a different trip entirely - Pinney's Beach, the golf course, and a fraction of St. Kitts' traffic. Bradshaw International in about three and a half hours, and also serves the island from Charlotte. Check schedules before you commit to dates, because Caribbean service thins out in the low season. The rule that trips people up: St. Kitts and Nevis now requires an Electronic Travel Authorization from every arriving passenger, by air and by sea. You file it at knatravelform.kn, it costs $17, approval usually lands within 24 hours, and you can submit up to 90 days out. Your passport needs six months of validity and a blank page, no visa is required for stays up to 90 days, and immigration can ask for a return ticket and proof of where you're staying. Handle the eTA the week you book, not the night before. Cruise passengers need it too. Even the six-hour version of St. Kitts now comes with paperwork. ## Why St. Kitts Deserves A Week, Not A Port Day Sit at Cockleshell Bay with a beer and Nevis is right there across The Narrows, a couple of miles of water away. That's the tell. Standing on one island looking at the second island you aren't going to visit is the entire cruise-passenger experience of St. Kitts and Nevis, and I've done it more than once. Christophe Harbour clears customs and immigration on site, with VIP clearance for arriving yachts and private jets. So the island has two front doors: one where you never touch a line, and one where 690,000 cruise passengers file down a gangway on the ship's clock. The week-long version, with a rental car and a ferry ticket, sits in between and almost nobody takes it. Build it around a Friday, because Lobsterfest at Reggae Beach Bar is the one fixed point on the island worth scheduling the rest of the trip around.
