# The 2026 Guys Trip Report: What the Travel Industry Says About Men's Travel Trends

*By James Hills — Updated October 2026*

The 2026 ManTripping Guys Trip Report invited more than 1,000 tourism and travel-industry leaders across North America to tell us what they are seeing in men's group travel, 167 of them took part, and the answer is clear: demand is up or holding steady for 96% of those who answered; adventure and fishing now outrank golf, only 6% list casino and nightlife among the top requests; and only 6% of the destination marketing organizations we surveyed have a dedicated strategy for any of it. I've run ManTripping since 2008, and this first annual report is the first time I've had survey numbers on guys trips instead of gut feel.

Only 6% of the destination marketing organizations we surveyed have a dedicated guys trip strategy. These are the moves the respondents already working this market told us about.

- **Publish ready-made guys trip itineraries** - Shores & Islands Ohio features three customized guys trip getaway itineraries on its website, in a Lake Erie region best known for adventure and fishing.

- **Lean into live sports** - the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau in Texas pairs sports, barbecue and brews in a walkable entertainment district, and TrackTown USA in Eugene, Oregon, sees rising interest in VIP and elevated experiences at live sporting events.

- **Tie guys trip visitation to the major events** - the ATL Airport District in Atlanta targeted guys who love soccer leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

- **Track who is visiting the website** - Laurel Highlands Tourism in Pennsylvania reports that guys researching trips rose significantly during and since COVID, and that 41% of its website users were male in 2025.

- **Recognize father-son demand** - US Ghost Adventures sees strong interest in father-son trips, and Unique Ascent's regular customers are fathers and sons, with sons ranging from 10 to their mid-forties.

One important editor's note that I'll add here too is that while there are stereotypical "guy stuff" and "girls stuff" ... women are also actively searching for traditionally masculine adventures and guys we talk to and trends we see as shadow blips in our own search records on this site indicate that men are increasingly open to other opporutunities that don't always show up in marketing data on travel trends like this.

For nearly 20 years, most of what I've published about guys trips came from two places: my own trips and long conversations with tourism professionals as well as my diverse group of friends that I travel with. The survey data behind any of it just didn't exist, and the fact that "guys trips" has no single agreed-upon term since many men just see it as their "annual golf trip" or "fishing trip" makes the research that much more difficult. Despite this, my decades of traveling with my male friends shows that regardless of the name we give our vacations with the guys ... the trend is continuing and the classics like golf and fishing are still going strong alongside the desire for "experiences" that create memories and lasting bonds extending beyond what's shared on Facebook.

Girls trips get a stronger conversation because a lot of PR and marketing teams lean into women as the household travel decision-makers, and that is smart planning since women statistically are more conversational about their spending. However, it leaves the men's side open, and assumptions fill the space and get treated as fact, mainly that a guy's trip means heading to Vegas for and a weekend of drinking and smoking cigars between rounds of golf and gambling.

So this year we asked the people who would know. We collected these responses earlier this summer, and with fall [guys trip](https://www.mantripping.com/guys-trip.html) season now underway, from football weekends to fall fishing, here is what the supply side of travel told us about the weekend with the guys in 2026.

## Guys Trip Demand Is Holding or Growing for 96% of the Tourism Professionals We Surveyed

When we asked tourism professionals how interest in guys trips has moved over the past year, 96% said it is up or holding steady. Among those reporting any movement, growth outnumbered decline nine to one.

- **40% up** - four in ten respondents said guys trip interest is up year over year.

- **55% steady** - most of the rest said demand is holding at the same level.

- **5% down** - only a handful said interest was somewhat down, and not one reported a significant decline.

## Adventure and Fishing Now Outrank Golf on the Guys Trip Request List

We asked what guys trip groups are requesting and the top of the list is not a casino or a Vegas strip. This was a known fact to me, having watched our traffic shift since COVID, but PR folks we talk to still assumed the trope of a [Vegas guys trip](https://www.mantripping.com/united-states/nevada/las-vegas.html) being the iconic men's trip. In our survey, respondents could pick up to five activities, and adventure and outdoor activities led at 63%, fishing and hunting came in at 53%, and golf held a strong third at 50%.

| What Guys Trip Groups Are Requesting | Share of Respondents |
| --- | --- |
| Adventure and outdoor (hiking, kayaking, ATVs, zip lines) | 63% |
| Fishing and hunting | 53% |
| Golf | 50% |
| Brewery, distillery and spirits trails | 45% |
| Live sporting events | 38% |
| Water sports | 20% |
| Camping and glamping | 20% |
| Casino and nightlife | 6% |

Casino and nightlife landed near the very bottom at 6%, and only wellness and spa ranked lower. I suspect that this in part is due to the economy as well as a global decline in interest in destination gambling since online wagering and mobile betting are becoming increasingly common as well as the simple fact that "Vegas" no longer is the gambling destination it once was since you can go to fantastic casinos in Chicago, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Southern California, alongside traditional destinations like Atlantic City, Coastal Mississippi, and Connecticut.

The Lake Erie islands already market to this group. Shores & Islands Ohio told us and I absolutely love this destination because it is affordable, fun and easy to get to:

> "Guys trips have always been an important visitor market for Shores & Islands Ohio. So, it is refreshing to see the results of this survey, especially the increased interest in adventure and fishing - two of the things our Lake Erie region is best known for.
> We even feature three customized getaway itineraries for guys trips on our website. Whether you're chasing adrenaline, casting a line, or just craving great food and drinks with the crew, we've got you covered. These itineraries are packed with adventure, laughs, and a little relaxation - perfect for bros, best buds, or bachelor weekends. We're excited to see additional growth in this market segment."

- Jill Bauer, Shores & Islands Ohio

Golf isn't fading either. Caitlin Corbin of Visit Newport Beach described how it has evolved: "For men in particular, the golf trip has evolved from a weekend escape into a full cultural experience, blending competition, camaraderie, and premium hospitality."

## Only 6% of Destinations Have a Dedicated Guys Trip Strategy, So the Field Is Still Open

Among the tourism boards and visitor bureaus that answered, only 6% have a dedicated guys trip marketing strategy, and 94% do not. Another 61% fold guys trips into their general group travel marketing.

One in five of those organizations (21%) told us they are actively considering a dedicated strategy right now. None of the hotels or attractions that answered has built a dedicated package, though most of the attractions say guys trip inquiries come in regularly. On the PR side, 69% of the travel PR professionals we heard from have at least one client pitching guys trips.

Some of the gaps are in the product itself. Erin Osborne of ON Public Relations pointed to wellness: "Wellness experiences specific to male health - spa and wellness treatments are marketed heavily to women or couples. ... given the growing interest in cold plunging, saunas and hydrotherapy, it seems like there should be more."

## Four Outside Trends Behind the Shift in Guys Trips

The survey shows what is happening. After nearly two decades covering guys trips, here is my read on why, with outside data behind each trend.

- **Men are heading outside in record numbers** - outdoor recreation hit a new record of 183.2 million Americans in 2025, 59% of everyone 6 and older, according to the Outdoor Industry Association's 2026 report. That lines up with adventure taking the top spot in our survey.

- **Americans are drinking less** - Gallup's 2026 poll found only 54% of U.S. adults drink, holding at the lowest level since it started tracking in 1939 for a second straight year, and its 2025 poll found drinking among young adults fell from 59% in 2023 to 50%. Fewer drinkers is one plausible reason the casino-and-nightlife model is losing ground.

- **Golf travel is growing too** - the National Golf Foundation counts more than 12 million Americans traveling to play golf each year, up 49% from before the pandemic, and a Buffalo Groupe study found nearly nine in ten golfers plan to spend the same or more on golf travel.

- **Families are traveling across generations** - the Family Travel Association found 47% of travelers took a multigenerational trip in 2025, up 17% from 2024.

Put the top of our list together - fishing, adventure, breweries, the water - and much of it is drive-time travel, so a guys trip in 2026 is more likely to start with a cooler in the truck than a cross-country flight. The Midwest and the Great Lakes region are a natural fit. Brandon Caldwell of Visit Indiana said: "The move toward outdoor, experiential, drive to travel fits Indiana perfectly."

Laura Argenbright of Laurel Highlands Tourism in southwestern Pennsylvania saw the same shift on her side of the map: "Guys researching trips significantly rose during and since COVID due to the outdoor nature of our region. ... 41% of our website users were male in 2025."

## Fathers and Sons Are Already Taking Guys Trips Inside Family Vacations

A guys trip doesn't have to be a big, expensive epic. Some of my favorites have been moments inside a bigger trip. My dad and I went to a NASCAR race at Darlington Raceway, and we've been on [fishing trips](https://www.mantripping.com/fishing.html) together over the years. On a Viking Expedition cruise on Georgian Bay in Ontario with my parents and my wife, my dad and I did several shore excursions together, from a hike around Flowerpot Island to a couple of Manitoulin Brewing cans and a fish fry.

*My dad and I with Manitoulin Brewing cans on a Viking Expedition cruise stop on Georgian Bay, Ontario.*

On a family vacation or a couples trip, the guys can grab a few hours while everyone else does their own thing. This is a personal favorite of mine when Heather and I travel with my parents on cruises like we did exploring the Great Lakes with Viking Expeditions in 2025. An afternoon or a day trip excursion that a father spends with his son on a family vacation counts as a guys trip as far as I'm concerned and I suspect is more common than shows up in surveys and industry reports that look at the larger event and not individual activities.

Operators see it on the ground. Kelli Bloomquist of US Ghost Adventures told us, "The shift is from 'where should we go?' to 'what are we going to experience together?' ... we're seeing strong interest from multi-generational groups, especially [father-son trips](https://www.mantripping.com/father-and-son-trips.html)." Iain Miller of Unique Ascent in northwest Ireland said fathers and sons "are taking trips together at all stages of their lives," with sons ranging from 10 to their mid-forties. And Naresh Dahal of Everest Luxury Holidays said: "The fathers I work with often say the same thing: 'This is the only trip my son and I have actually talked on.'"

## Who Took Part in the 2026 Guys Trip Survey and Why Their Answers Will Help Shape The Future Of ManTripping and The Travel Industry as a Whole

We invited more than 1,000 tourism and travel-industry leaders across North America. Not all of them were able to take part by sharing answers publicly but we collected responses from 167. About 80% of those who told us their organization type are destination marketing organizations and travel PR professionals; the rest came from a variety of travel industry roles that shape how destinations are marketed, including executives from hotels, resorts, attractions, and outfitters.

The reach is wide, too. Respondents who told us where they are based cover at least 15 U.S. states, from Alaska and Washington to Pennsylvania and Georgia, plus Canada and Mexico, along with tour operators in Ireland and the Himalayas.

Respondents included Visit Newport Beach, Visit Anchorage, Laurel Highlands Tourism, Shores & Islands Ohio, Visit Indiana, the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau in Texas, the ATL Airport District, TrackTown USA and US Ghost Adventures.

## Guys Trips Are One in Six Group Inquiries Reported To Us In 2026

The destinations that track it told us guys trips already make up about one in six of their group travel inquiries. That is a sizable share of inquiries, and with so few dedicated strategies in place, early movers have room to stand out.

This is year one of the Guys Trip Report. We'll go deeper into fishing and hunting, golf, adventure travel and father-son trips in follow-up reports, and we look forward to seeing how these numbers change as we move into 2027.

If your destination or company wasn't part of the 2026 survey, I want to hear from you too. Tell me what you're seeing with guys trips this fall by emailing me directly at james@mantripping.com.

*About the numbers: 1,068 tourism and travel-industry contacts were invited, 167 took part and 34 answered every question. Each percentage reflects the respondents who answered that specific question: 67 for the demand trend, 64 for the activities and the respondent mix, 33 destination marketing organizations for the strategy questions, 13 travel PR professionals for client pitching and 15 destinations for the share of group inquiries. Location figures reflect the 38 who answered that question. Some organizations were represented by more than one contact. This is an industry insider survey, not a consumer poll, and the smaller groups behind some figures should be read as a signal rather than a census.*
