When you think of the perfect destination for a guys’ weekend vacation, does Las Vegas quickly come to mind? If you answered yes, you aren’t alone. Las Vegas is easily one of the most popular destinations for guys’ weekends. The destination itself even knows it has been typecast as a weekend getaway, which is why it offers two- and three-night packages that can include flights, car rentals, and accommodations.
But just because Vegas is known for being a guys’ weekend vacation destination, doesn’t mean it’s always worthy of the title. Many would argue that Vegas is overrated and that there are better destinations out there.
So if you’re getting ready to plan a bro getaway and just assumed Vegas was the obvious choice, we’ve got some reasons why it might be overrated. Warning: this may transform the way you see the gambling Mecca and have you thinking twice about booking it!
The Cost Is Often Higher Than Expected
The packages you can find for Las Vegas can seem like a great deal when you first look at them, but keep in mind they are not all-inclusive. You’re still going to be buying meals and spending money on entertainment, shows, gambling, shopping, and so forth.
While it’s true Las Vegas has many great attractions, including world-class resorts that offer casino promo codes, they’re generally expensive. If you’re on a tight budget, there are limited things you can do. Many other destinations can offer a better time for a more reasonable price.
It Could Be a Long Way to Travel for a Weekend
A weekend getaway is great in that you don’t have to take any time off work. You can head out Friday once you finish work for the day and come home late Sunday night. The problem is that it may still be a long flight, depending on where you’re located. You may not be able to get a direct flight either, which makes it even longer.
Factor in your total travel time too, not just the flight but also getting to your local airport and then from the airport to your hotel in Las Vegas. After factoring all this in, you may decide that Vegas is better suited for a week-long trip, not just a couple of days.
It Can Get Pretty Crowded
A common complaint that people have about Vegas is it gets crowded—extremely crowded! The resorts on the Las Vegas Strip can be especially appealing thanks to their fun themes and proximity to all the excitement, but there is nothing relaxing about these mega hotels. Even something as simple as finding a lounge chair at the hotel pool can be next to impossible.
Wandering down the Strip often includes crowded sidewalks, the casinos can be loud and overcrowded, and getting reservations at the popular restaurants is next to impossible during peak tourist season. All of these can create a fair amount of frustration that you may not want to deal with if you’re there for just a few days.
The Hotels May Not Be Your Style
The hotels can be a huge draw for travelers, but if big, sprawling properties aren’t your thing, then Vegas likely isn’t ideal. The hotels are so big that you will need to wear comfortable walking shoes because your room might end up being a fair distance from the lobby, pool, restaurant, or shops. It’s not usually a quick little trip from spot A to spot B.
Many Find the Destination Too “Tacky”
There’s no denying that crowded or not, the hotels go out of their way in terms of the themes. Each property is unique and gives travelers a different style of stay. With that said, many tourists end up feeling like it’s all a bit too much. It can come off too tacky at times, and that’s not everyone’s vibe. There’s nothing understated when it comes to Las Vegas: it’s all very big, and very loud.
The Activities May Not Appeal to You
Putting the hotels aside, what kind of activities do you and your buddies enjoy? Las Vegas is all about casinos, live shows, dining, high-end shopping, and being seen. If you and your buddies enjoy hiking, fishing, golfing, catching a professional sports game, and so on, Las Vegas won’t be right for that.
Tickets to Shows and Events Tend to Be Pricey
While there’s no doubt that the shows in Vegas are top-notch, they can lead to disappointment. If you have hopes of catching a big event, don’t expect to just show up and get tickets. People purchase tickets months, sometimes even a year or more, in advance. And any top performance is going to come with a premium price tag too. Expect to pay an arm and a leg for certain live performances and be crammed into a theater with hundreds, even thousands, of other guests.
There May Be a Better Destination for You and Your Bros
At the end of the day, once you start looking at Las Vegas more closely, you might decide that it isn’t the best destination for your guys’ weekend getaway. While there are many great things about Vegas, there are also a lot of things that are overrated and not ideal for everyone.
