For All Mankind and other great Apple TV+ shows

Apple TV+ is somewhat of a latecomer to the streaming wars but if there's anything that Apple is truly good at, it's taking good stuff in the marketplace and making it better. Ok, so that's not a perfect analogy but when I first heard about Apple TV+ I thought it was going to be some meaningless "me too" type offering but they have done a shockingly good job at building out a robust lineup that has some of my absolute favorite shows.

The streaming service first debuted exactly 3 years ago on November 1, 2019 and in that time has managed to produce some of the best programing on any service - broadcast, cable, or streaming. They've also worked out deals with cable providers such as our friends at Cox where it is now available to select Cox Contour and Contour Stream Player subscribers. Those that aren't already subscribers can take advantage of a free three-month trial of the service when they access the offer via the Cox guide by December 14, 2022. After that period, the subscription is only $4.99 vs the normal $6.99 charged to non Cox subscribers.

Cox Contour and Contour Stream Player are Cox's video product that does a great job of making traditional cable TV content available right alongside streaming services so you don't have to worry about having the right streaming stick or box. All you need is provided right there by Cox.

So now that you're all fired up and have your Apple TV+ subscription ready, let's take a look at some of the great content that we know guys will love.

For All Mankind

This is probably my absolute favorite show on TV right now and I can't wait to see what happens when it returns for Season 4 in winter 2023. It started out as a alternate history drama with the supposition of what might have happened if the US hadn't made it to the moon first and since then has gone on to become a sci-fi show following our path to Mars last season. What I like about this show is that it's more than simply a cool sci-fi show but it also does a great job of exploring complex issues like race, gender, and discriminations

Ted Lasso

Featuring Jason Sudeikis and a cast of equally talented folks who I've grown to really like, this is a sports comedy based around a British soccer team. Coach Ted Lasso is the eternal optimist and through determination manages to shape the future of this team in a way that somewhat parallels the original Major League.

Finch

Starring Tom Hanks as a survivor of a global apocolypse and two companions - his dog and a robot that he built go on a road trip and face new dangers as they travel across the American West.

Acapulco

There's been quite a few 80s retro comedy-dramas set in the United States but this one takes place in Acapulco, Mexico telling the story of a cabana boy in the hotest resort in town. The show tells the tales of his adventures and challenges as he deals with demanding clientele as well as home life in and various temptations.

Friday Night Baseball

While the season is over, Apple TV+ will be streaming Friday night baseball again in 2023.

If you're looking for something new, you should absolutely check out Apple TV+, there are some fantastic shows here and I'm sure you'll be able to find some new favorites ... just like I did!
