Wampanoag Succotash: A Culinary Journey Inspired by History and Heritage
Typically when we think of summer grilling season, the featured meat is steaks, burgers, sausage - and maybe chicken. Rarely though do I hear people talking about grilled buffalo-style party wings but these are amazing on the grill and a bit healthier than frying or even baking in the oven. Of course, that health benefit typically goes out the window when you cover them in sauces. It's all about personal responsibility though and I love options that allow people to make choices.
Last night I had the opportunity to not just visit a fantastic new brewery but also meet with five of the best chefs in San Diego. We were assembled to help raise money for Feeding San Diego, while also celebrating the launch of Flesh & Blood - Bitter Brothers new Golden Sour that has a stunning color and flavor of tart cherries and raspberry. Each of the five courses was inspired by and paired with one of their beers, for a culinary experience that I wish could be shared better than just my words and pictures.
Birds Eye has some new Veggie Made pastas that they asked me to check out. So while looking at the freezer case I had a challenge - do I go with the probably really good on it's own pasta with alfredo sauce... or make my own? I think you know what the answer is here and that's because I love to innovate and create new recipes. So here it is, Spicy Cajun Alfredo with pork chops served over Birds Eye® Steamfresh Veggie Made™ Zucchini Lentil Pasta!
The other day I discovered I actually liked gin... or at least Tanqueray No Ten. To be honest, I'm still not a huge fan of dry gin and so bear with me - this is something different. Instead of the medicinal, pine-tree-flavor you might be familiar with, we're going for a bright citrus flavor that compliments the classic base of juniper and other botanicals that give gin such a unique flavor for our wings in today's recipe. For those of you who love wings and are looking for something new - this is going to be a treat!
I love making stir fry because it's generally a healthy, fun, and colorful way to get a great meal quick, with relatively little mess. Generally all you need is a knife, cutting board, and a wok or stir fry pan and away you go!
Virtually everyone I know has their own way to prepare jambalaya and so do I. This is the recipe I make when I know I want plenty of leftovers for when I'm just not sure what to eat. It also works well if you are preparing a big family meal or perhaps whipping up something relatively healthy, hearty, and satisfying for a football party.
Vermont is surprisingly a pretty awesome state for foodies and while I knew of Ben & Jerry's factory tour I was surprised to find oh so much more. From maple syrup to apples to dairy, this state has a lot to offer anyone seeking a different sort of food tour experience. Here's some of our favorite stops...
Buffalo wings are one of the most popular snacks for football parties - or even just snacking anytime. However, they tend not to be very healthy. Even when grilled vs fried, there's a lot of fat in the chicken skins. As a healthy alternative though, why not try cauliflower instead? These Buffalo Cauliflower Wing Bites are not only a more healthy alternative to traditional wings but they taste great and provides an excellent source of vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, vitamin B6, dietary fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids among other nutrients.
National Gumbo Day is October 12, 2019 and we're big fans of this hearty dish and how it reflects the local tastes and personal styles of the cook. While it is tempting to try and put together a list of "America's Best Gumbo" that would be an exercise in futility. The truth is that the best gumbo is the one that is made from the heart and served up with a smile. So, gator, seafood, sausage, pork, or something else, let's grab a spoon and check out these great places to get your gumbo on!
Incorporating dark chocolate might be a surprisingly beneficial choice for men seeking to enhance their health through diet. Most of us don't need an excuse to eat more chocolate, but here it is - just make sure to eat the RIGHT kind of chocolate. This tasty treat is rich in crucial flavonoids, and dark chocolate has been shown to support heart health by improving blood flow and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases — common concerns that most men have... especially as we get older. Additionally, with chocolate's ability to help lower blood pressure and bad cholesterol, coupled with its positive effects on brain function and mood, dark chocolate makes an appealing option for those men like myself who are looking to improve both physical and mental well-being.
Understanding these benefits can help men make informed choices about including dark chocolate in their regular diet, providing a delicious way to boost overall health. Let's take a deeper look now...
Eggs Benedict is one of my all time favorite things to eat and I know that's true among many of my friends as well. It's a special dish that is generally reserved for special occasions and restaurants. However, it's easier to make at home than you might imagine.
Honestly, even though I was with a tour group I was a bit afraid to tour Puerto Vallarta at night. Unfortunately, Mexico doesn't have the best reputation these days but thankfully, I ignored those concerns because I had an awesome experience that was safe, clean and tourist-friendly. While I'm sure that most of you could wander around and explore the Puerto Vallarta food scene on your own - it was so much easier to do with the folks at Vallarta Food Tours who guided us and made everything easy.
I love taking classic items and kicking them up a notch (or three?). One of my favorite lunches to make is a classic grilled ham and cheese. While there’s nothing wrong with simply throwing some random ham and cheese slices between pieces of bread and grilling it – we can do better than that! When you want the ultimate grilled cheese experience, it’s important to focus on the best ingredients available and that’s why this one stars Eckrich Black Forest Ham.
While many people might look at English muffins simply as a platform to hold melted butter and some jam, for me they are much more versatile than that. In fact while I love them for breakfast and brunch there are a bunch of other uses for them as well. You can find more of those on the Bays English Muffins website, but for today we created a special recipe that combines two of my favorite flavors – French Toast and Cinnamon Sugar Toast.
Looking for a tasty treats to keep you warm and happy this winter? Here's some suggestions from our friends over at Guiness and Bulleit!
One of the hottest food trends right now is birria - no it isn't new but it is newly popular outside of the Mexican community and innovative food pioneers have taken it to new levels, far far beyond the classic birria taco. In fact, on this food tour of three San Diego birria restaurants, we tried it in tacos, pizza, ramen!
Tucson, Arizona is one of the hidden gems for a guys trip. It’s a perfect distance for road trips from Phoenix and while a bit farther from San Diego and Los Angeles, it’s an easy drive for guys looking for golf, history, culture, and of course great Mexican Food!
Pasta mixed up with cheese has been a favorite dish for centuries. It has a long history of being both a dish enjoyed by foodies to one enjoyed by the poorest of people looking simply for a tasty treat to fill their hungry bellies. As a result, you have an almost infinite number of macaroni and cheese recipes with each person having their own twist on the classic. Today's recipe comes to us from Bellwether Farms, an artisan creamery located in Sonoma County, California and features their Bellwether Farms Carmody.
In this article, we will list down what you should limit or preferably avoid at all times after stroke. Just always remember not to include or avoid three “S” in your recovery diet—salt, sugar, and saturated fats.
Being on the west coast is weird sometimes - we are three hours off from games that start on the East Coast and that means our tailgating foods are generally closer to brunch than dinner. Personally, I like to spice things up and I'm tired of the traditional recipes. Sure, you could have wings and mostaccioli but let's do something different. That's why I created this Brazilian-inspired omelette recipe featuring some products provided to me by the folks over a babbleboxx to create our own tailgate brunch experience.
