As the San Diego Red Bull Air Race approaches there is still time to grab a great hotel for the event! While several of the hotels right next to the air races are already booked, our super sleuths have done some research to find some great hotels that are still available.

Unfortunately, San Diego is a very expensive city, and especially downtown, so if you are looking for a fantastic hotel to use as your basecamp during the Red Bull Air Races then the Manchester Grand Hyatt can't be beat, but if you don't mind a little walking the Holiday Inn San Diego - On the Bay is still a great option.

Manchester Grand Hyatt

Manchester Grand Hyatt is located directly adjacent to the action on the embarcadero area. This gorgeous hotel also features rooms that feature views of the air race and windows that can open to let in the fresh sea breezes - or engine noise and fumes on this particular weekend, during the Red Bull Air Race J Rooms are not cheap, but this appears to be the last hotel with rooms available this close to the air race.

Rooms start at $379 for two double beds, or $404 for a room with a "premium view". Luckily for those of us on a tight budget, there are plenty of other hotels in downtown San Diego that are a bit cheaper, and San Diego is a great city for walking - even at night.

 

Holiday Inn San Diego - On the Bay

Holiday Inn San Diego - On the Bay is, as its name suggests, is located in the waterfront area, but just up the coast from the Manchester Grand Hyatt and a little ways from the Red Bull Air Race action, but if you are looking for a hotel on the water, this can still fill the bill for that goal. Rooms are quite a bit cheaper, starting at only $179 per night.

Hotels in the Gaslamp Quarter

San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter is full of great nightlife, including restaurants, bars, shopping, and of course hotels. The following options are located in this area, which is still an easy walk down to the waterfront to watch the air race.

Westin San Diego

The Westin San Diego is set in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter and among other amenities features Starbucks cofee for the in-room coffee makers, yum! Rooms at the Westin are available for $389 per night.

Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Downtown

The Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Downtown is also a great option for Gaslamp Quarter hotels and their rooms are still available for $269 per night. With just over two weeks before the Red Bull Air Race, it is important to act soon!
